The digital Tachograph is used to record the driving and the rest times for drivers and co-drivers. The distinctive capability of the digital Tachograph is that it can store the vehicle speed, distance traveled and system related parameters with 100% accuracy. The data storage facility in the digital Tachograph is in the Mass memory as well as Smart cards (Driver Cards) installed in the digital Tachograph. The EU Commission intends to replace the existing traditional EC Tachographs in the next few years with that of the digital Tachograph. EU is determined to monitor the drive and rest times of the drivers which can only be possible through the digital Tachograph. All new vehicles will be fitted with “digital Tachographs”. All vehicles from August 5th 2004 with 3.5t permissible maximum weight will be installed with “digital Tachographs”. The intelligent speed sensor KITAS is fitted in the new digital Tachograph. The device digital Tachograph gives a warning 15 minutes before the permitted driving time of 4.5 hours exceeds. Print out facility of the drive and rest times can be easily taken by connecting the digital Tachograph to either a PC or a laptop. The digital Tachograph comes up with a greater capacity of approximately 365 days storage which enhances the scope for greater analysis and data interpretation through the digital Tachograph.

The digital Tachograph is the software for the visualization and archiving of driver map data. It takes information about the drive time and the rest time. There are various application types available in the digital Tachograph it can be operated on the notebook of the driver - on the PC at home - on the Desktop office computer. The vehicle conditions are clearly represented and can be printed if necessary. Additionally infringements to the data of the digital Tachograph are indicated in accordance with EU3820. The driver maps can be stored in the digital Tachograph as file and indicated later again.
